8 Network Performance Analyzer Reference
The operator may alter the following parameters.
• Slave device IP address - The slave device may be selected
from a list or typed in as a name or IP address. If the device
is specified by name, DNS and WINS are used to translate the
name into an IP address.
• Maximum Hop Count - The maximum number of routers to
traverse while tracing out the route.
SNMP Query
This tool uses the SNMP to retrieve the following information
from the device. This information is usually provided by IT
services.
• MIB II System Group:
• System description
• Up time
• Contact
• System name
• Location
Locate Switch Port
This tool is used to determine the switch port to which a device
is connected. The SNMP is used to search for switches in the
network. Each of these switches are probed to see if the device
appears in the switch tables. The MAC address of all the devices
which are mapped to the switch port are displayed. There is no
order to the list for multiple results, therefore, the results
cannot be interpreted as a direct path.
Performance Tests
The Performance Tests tool is used to verify the network
performance between two network points. These tests are IP
and MAC Loopback tests, RFC 2544 Throughput, Latency,
Frame Loss Rate and Back To Back tests, TCP/UDP Throughput
test, and Packet Error Rate Test. For details on each test, go to
Chapter 2, “Performance Tests” on page 48. Note the following
points:
• All loopback and RFC 2544 tests require a second
FrameScope Pro as a slave device.
• The MAC loopback test only works within the subnet (does
not work across routers).
